Location
Gower Retreats (formerly Oldwalls Gower) offers a thoughtfully curated collection of glamping pods, cottages and apartments set within North Gower, near the village of Llanrhidian, in the heart of the breath-taking Gower Peninsula. Nestled within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and surrounded by 50 acres of beautiful countryside, the retreat is defined by open skies, rolling fields and far-reaching views that invite you to slow down and reconnect with nature. Designed with rustic luxury at its core, Gower Retreats blends natural textures, understated comfort and carefully considered spaces to create a setting that feels both grounded and indulgent. The atmosphere is calm and unhurried, offering a rare sense of space and stillness while remaining well connected to the wider Gower Peninsula. Guests can step straight into the landscape with countryside walks from the door, then return to a range of on-site amenities designed to enhance relaxation without ever feeling overdone. These include the bar and restaurant, beauty salon and spa, and a luxury outdoor rustic spa experience featuring a state-of-the-art sauna, hot tub, cold-dip plunge, and access to private tennis courts — all thoughtfully designed to sit in harmony with the surrounding countryside. The wider Gower Peninsula is internationally celebrated for its dramatic coastline and world-class beaches. Among the most iconic is Rhossili Beach, consistently ranked as one of the world’s most beautiful beaches. With its vast sweep of golden sand, rugged cliffs and views across Worm’s Head, Rhossili is a must-visit and lies approximately 8 miles from Gower Retreats, an easy 15–20 minute drive. Equally striking is Three Cliffs Bay, around 7 miles away, known for its dramatic limestone cliffs and winding river, while Oxwich Bay (approximately 9 miles) offers long, open sands ideal for swimming and paddleboarding. Port Eynon Beach (around 6 miles) provides a gentler seaside setting, perfect for relaxed coastal days. For walkers and nature lovers, the Wales Coast Path runs through the peninsula, offering miles of clifftop routes with panoramic sea views, while quieter inland paths and country lanes wind through farmland and salt marsh, revealing a softer, more peaceful side of Gower. History and heritage are woven into the landscape too. Just 3 miles from Gower Retreats, Weobley Castle sits on the edge of the Loughor Estuary, its evocative ruins overlooking wide salt marshes and tidal waters. The setting is especially atmospheric at sunrise and sunset, making it an ideal spot for a gentle walk close to home. Further afield, Oystermouth Castle offers insight into the area’s medieval past. Nearby Mumbles is perfect for unhurried seaside strolls, boutique shopping and views across Swansea Bay, while the city of Swansea provides cultural attractions including the marina, the National Waterfront Museum and Plantasia Tropical Zoo. Whether your days are spent exploring world-famous beaches, walking dramatic coastal paths, discovering quiet historic sites, or returning early to enjoy the spa and countryside surroundings, Gower Retreats offers a rare balance of adventure, tranquillity and rustic luxury. Here, life slows down. The landscape leads. And every stay becomes an opportunity to experience one of South Wales’ most beautiful and unspoilt regions at your own pace.
